Alma Mura (Mexico/Croatia/U.S.)Tuesday, February 13, 2018 @ 8 p.m. - 10 p.m.
(2 hrs. approximate run time)
Join us for a celebration of world music with Alma Mura!
Alma Mura is an eclectic trio based in Pittsburgh, US. With mexican, croatian and american blood flowing through their veins, it is only fitting that Alma Mura celebrates world music! Roger, Jon and Bergita bring their diverse musical influences to create original tunes as well as interpret classic and obscure world music gems. Their range spans across fado, flamenco, Croatian ethno, Bosnian sevdah, Cuban folk and other traditional and contemporary genres, often combining a few of them within a single track.
The name Alma Mura (Spirit of Mura) was inspired by a Croatian folk song Mura, Mura about the namesake river running along the northern region of Croatia often covered in thick fog and cool breeze. Along with spanish alma, Alma Mura is a point of confluence merging some of the band’s main languages and musical heritages while creating a playfully mystical mood that permeates its original and interpretative repertoire.
This event is presented as part of the Northside Leadership Conference’s Northside Mardi Gras celebration.
