Jenny Wilson Trio (U.S.)Wednesday, January 10, 2018 @ 8 p.m. - 10 p.m.
(2 hrs. approximate run time)
Join us for an evening of jazz with the Jenny Wilson Trio.
Original music is the primary focus of the Jenny Wilson Trio. With the addition of jazz standards, contemporary and familiar, as well as unique arrangements of popular song, they perform a program that appeals to a wide audience.
The sound of the trio is influenced by traditional jazz, Americana, and classical music. Not often heard as a melodic instrument, Nathan Wilson utilizes the singing quality of the double bass. Jenny’s vocals have been compared to those of Diana Krall and Norah Jones and Carole King. Jenny’s piano style is highly influenced by modern jazz pianists and by her classical training.
Jenny Wilson studied piano with Bob Charest at the University of Maine in Augusta, Art Lande in Switzerland and with Ron Bickel at Duquesne University. She has a Master of Music in Jazz Pedagogy from WVU and a Bachelor of Music Performance Degree Flute from the University of Southern Maine. She received the Willie Maiden Award for composition and arranging while in school in Maine. She has been a musician and artist and teacher for most of her adult life.
Nathan Wilson is an accomplished jazz and popular music bassist. He is also a recording engineer and sound tech for the Jenny Wilson Trio and Squonk Opera. He has been a member of Squonk in Pittsburgh for over 15 years.
David Glover is a top call drummer in Pittsburgh and beyond. He is associate professor of music at Slippery Rock University where he is also the director of the music program. Prof. Glover plays with many of the great jazz musicians in Pittsburgh including Benny Benack and Jeff Lashaway.
