Kaleta & Super Yamba Band Presented by City of AsylumFriday, May 15, 2020 @ 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM
A remarkable, re-broadcasted performance from our favorite Brooklyn afro-funksters. Kaleta & Super Yamba Band first performed at Alphabet City in December of 2018—and we’re still reminiscing the funky sounds and great energy.
Streamed on The Show Must Go On(line) Pittsburgh channel. (run-time 60 minutes)
Super Yamba Band is fronted by Afrobeat veteran Leon Ligan-Majek a.k.a. Kaleta. The singer, guitarist and percussionist from the West African country of Benin Republic lived his adolescent life in Lagos, Nigeria where Afrobeat was born.
Audiences will hear Kaleta sing in several different languages native to West Africa including Fon, Goun, Yoruba and Ewe, along with French and Pidgin English, “the official language of Afrobeat.”
This concert was pure fun. It was packed with people of all ages, dancing and bumping elbows before it was the only method of interacting. COA Production Manager Alexis Jabour introduces the program Kaleta & Super Yamba Band, her favorite concert from her first year of working with us.
This was also the last performance of our 2018 calendar which closed that year out with audiences grooving and dancing between the aisles and in front of the stage– a first for our venue. We encourage dancing at home while you watch!
