Join Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and renowned violinist Alina Ibragimova for an evening celebrating “Fierce & Female” voices in the arts, featuring poets Clare Welsh and Kizza.

Featured Poets:

Clare Welsh is a poet based in Pittsburgh, and a graduate of The University of New Orleans MFA program. In 2019 her poems appeared in The Massachusetts Review, Puerto Del Sol, The Midwest Review, The Coal Hill Review, Cagibi, Fine Print Paper, Sundog Lit, Waxing & Waning, The Peauxdunque Review, The Raw Art Review, and Twyckenham Notes. Her poems have been nominated for both Pushcart and Best of the Net anthologies, read on NPR Atlanta and WHIV New Orleans radio stations, and her manuscript Wolfdog was a finalist for Muse/A Journal’s 2019 book prize. Her chapbook Chimeras (2014) is available through Finishing Line Press.

Kizza (formerly known as Kimberly Jae) is an award winning Slam Poet, author, educator, mother, survivor and budding visual artist. Stroke Survivor. Cancer Survivor. Epilepsy Warrior. A slam poet who struggles to speak. A writer who struggles to read and write. Redefining disabled. Kizza was the 2018 Grand Slam Champion of Steel City Slam, 2018 BOSS Slam Queen of Slam Champion, 2018 Steel City Slam IWPS Rep, three time Pajama Jammy Jam Slam Champion as well as 2018 Finalist for Baltimore’s Slammageddon Slam. Kizza was ranked #29 in the world by Poetry Slam International. Prior to her stroke in 2019, Kizza was a finalist in the Steel City Grand Slam Championship, Guelph Grand Slam Championship, and Champion of the Guelph Hot Damn! It’s a Queer Slam! and posed to represent Guelph Slam in Toronto, Ontario, Canada in the Finals. Additionally, her work can be found in This Thing Called Poetry: An Anthology of Poems by Young Adults with Cancer. Her forthcoming book, Baptism, is set to be released in June 2020.
