Today’s highlight is award-winning, nationally-syndicated editorial cartoonist Rob Rogers, reading from his collection of political cartoons. Enemy of the People: A Cartoonist’s Journey, at Alphabet City in June 2019.
After 25 years as the political cartoonist for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Rob Rogers was fired for drawing cartoons critical of President Trump. Enemy of the People chronicles Rogers’ unenviable journey and investigates the dangers currently posed to freedom of speech with honesty, daring, and wit.
Rob read at City of Asylum in June 2019 to a packed house, sharing new cartoons that made us think and made us laugh. His commitment to championing the First Amendment ring more true today than ever before.
This evening’s program will conclude with a new interview with Rob as we catch up on what he’s been creating in quarantine. We’re living in a time ripe with inspiration for political cartoonists and Rob’s new material reminds us of the importance of speaking hard truths, and laughing through the pain.
