Join us for The Best of the MLK, Jr. Day Writing Awards presented by Carnegie Mellon University.
Challenges to the Dream: The Best of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Writing Awards at Carnegie Mellon University, is an anthology that celebrates a writing contest that since 1999 has invited Pittsburgh-area high school and college students to write honestly and creatively about race. The mission of the MLK Day Writing Awards is to create a space for daring, eloquent, and inventive work, in the belief that the process of writing itself can help young people explore and break down issues of difference in their lives.
Over the eighteen-year history of the awards, thousands of students have written meaningful poems and essays about their encounters with race and difference. Please join us as many of the anthology contributors come together and read and discuss their work. The awards are sponsored by the Dietrich College for Humanities and Social Sciences and the Center for Student Diversity and Inclusion at Carnegie Mellon.
