Tierra Adentro: In the Depths of the LandThursday, October 10, 2019 @ 7 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
Join us for an evening of native rhythms from different regions of South America with award-winning performers Raquel Winnica Young and Dieter Hennings-Yeomans, presenting Tierra Adentro: In the Depths of the Land.
This program will explore music from Chile, Argentina and southern Mexico, featuring “the voices of the unheard”- folk styles not often performed in North America; the program will include zambas, carnavalitos, cuecas and valses, and the chilena from Oaxaca, based on a Chilean rhythm. These songs will feature poetry and lyrics by prominent 20th century South American and Mexican songwriters who were inspired by the life of the “unheard” people who live and work the fields of foreign and desolate lands.
Equally comfortable performing early music, new music and chamber music, Ms. Raquel Winnica Young‘s career has taken her to concert halls throughout the Americas and Europe. With Quantum Theater she performed in Maria de Buenos Aires, Ainadamar, The Winter’s Tale and the world premier of Looking for Violeta, about the life of Chilean singer song-writer Violeta Parra. She has also performed with Chatham Baroque, The Pittsburgh Camerata, Alia Musica Pittsburgh, Altoona Symphony, Johnstown Symphony, Pittsburgh Concert Chorale, Microscopic Opera, Newberry Consort (Chicago), Rose Ensemble (Minneapolis), Apollo’s Fire (Cleveland) and ll Suonar Parlante (Italy). Born in Córdoba, Argentina, Ms. Winnica Young holds a degree from the Instituto de Arte del Teatro Colon and an Artist Diploma from Duquesne University. She is Adjunct Faculty in Voice at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
