City of Asylum believes that All Pittsburghers are Poets. Beginning in May 2020 and running through April 2021, poems by residents of Allegheny County of all ages and levels of experience are published weekly at Sampsonia Way Magazine.
Poems featured in All Pittsburghers are Poets: Poem of the Week were received through a free submission call and selected by the Sampsonia Way Editorial Committee (Madison Kerlan, Craig Hayes, Sarah McKee, and Mia DeFelice) as well as finalists for Emerging Poet Laureate of Allegheny County, ge gilbert, Fred Shaw, and R/B Mertz. Writers of accepted poems received $15 for their work in honor of City of Asylum’s 15th year.
With the Poem of the Week series, City of Asylum seeks to increase the readership and appreciation of poetry in Allegheny County. In partnership with the Poetry Editors at Sampsonia Way Magazine, City of Asylum advances our mission to defend, celebrate, and build on creative freedom of expression.
